Gordon Wayne Copeland

Gordon Wayne Copeland, 81, of Morehead City, North Carolina, stepped into eternity on September 21, 2025. He did so clothed in the righteousness of his kinsman redeemer The Lord Jesus Christ.

A memorial service to honor Gordon’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 27th at Open Door Baptist Church in Morehead City.

Gordon was born on June 30, 1944, to the late Gordon and Lottie Copeland in Durham, NC. One of eleven children, he loved his family dearly including the laughter they shared together. Gordon met the love of his life Barbara when she was a passenger on the school bus he was driving. They married right out of high school and enjoyed over 59 years together.

Gordon was a loyal employee of IBM for over 40 years. As a member of the NC National Guard, he served as a UH1H mechanic in the unit located at the Raleigh Durham Airport.

Never having time for a hobby, Gordons focus was on his wife, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. His sacrificial love pointed them toward Jesus. His family loved him immensely and hated to say goodbye, but they trust him into the care of The Good Shepherd until the day He is pleased to call them home to join him.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Copeland; son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Tara Copeland; granddaughter, Bethany Copeland; brother, Gerald Copeland; sister, Eleanor Copeland Weatherly; and countless nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Copeland Lowe, Margaret Copeland Luquire, Vivian Copeland Maynard, Ruth Copeland Brooks, Edna Copeland Lilly, Bernice Copeland Griffin, and Wilma Copeland; and his brother, James Jefferson “Buck” Copeland.
