Gloria Jean Holland

October 17, 1945 — September 3, 2009

Gloria Jean Holland, 63, of Beaufort, "Core Creek", passed in the early morning of Thursday, September 3rd, 2009, at home with her two children and Phil by her side.

Gloria was born October 17th, 1945 in Morehead City. She is the daughter of Velma Holland and the late Garland Holland. She will always be remembered for her love of the ocean, friends and all of God's creatures. It was sometimes joked that she loved animals more than people. She was an avid supporter of the humane society and took care of any animal or person in need. Gloria was a graduate of Morehead City High School and crowned May Queen. When asked what she did in High School she laughed and said "as little as possible". She was a doting grandmother, always spending quality time with her grandchildren, highlighted by outings on the boat with pimento cheese sandwiches as the snack of choice. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and numerous pets.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 8th at Live Oak Grove Christian Church with Pastor Bill Pollack officiating.

She is survived by her best friend and love of 26 years, Phil Sowers; her children, son, Chuck Clawson of Beaufort; her daughter, Marta Kubesch and husband Kurt, who reside in New Paris Ohio; grandchildren, Jolie Kubesch, Audrey Kubesch and Casey Bresnahan; aunts and uncles, Mattie Gray of Morehead City, James and Francis Edgerton of Morehead City, Bessie and Robert Tucker of Beaufort and her extended family with Phil Sowers, Jackie, Johnny, Travis and Cheyenne Bastin of Beaufort, Tammy, Tim, Heather, Holly and Tina Nobles of Angier, NC and Eric Lawrence of Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carteret County Humane Society, P.O. Box 402, Morehead City, NC, 28557 or Live Oak Christian Church, 166 Russell Creek Rd., Beaufort, NC, 28516.
