Gil Riggs, 78, of San Rafael, NM, formerly of Morehead City, was killed Saturday, September 12, 2009, in Grants, NM, as the result of a motor vehicle accident.

Mr. Riggs was born December 26, 1930 in White Oak, NC, the son of the late Edward Floyd Riggs and the late Annie Riggs McIntosh and was an only child.

He enlisted in the USCG and served for over 20 years before retiring in 1969. After his retirement, he ran his own air conditioning and refrigeration business in Yucca Valley, CA and El Cajon, CA. In the 1980's, he moved to San Rafael, NM. He was a longtime member of the American Legion, the Masons and the Shriners. He was also an active member of the USCGC Courier Association, having served aboard thie ship from 1957-1959 in Rhodes, Greece. His main hobby for which he had great passion, was treasure-hunting in which he was active until his death.

Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Bayview Cemetery.

He is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Riggs Worley of Apex, NC and Brenda Riggs Huffman of Shelbyville, IN; granddaughters, Mariah Dunn of Elyria, OH, Molly Worley of Apex, NC, SPC Maren Worley of Fort Bragg, NC and Karly Huffman of Shelbyville, IN; grandson, Kyle Huffman of Shelbyville, IN and three great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 7:00 - 8:00 pm Friday at Munden Funeral Home.
