Geraldine “Gerry” Kuchmay Johnson

Geraldine “Gerry” Kuchmay Johnson, 84, of Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, with her family at her bedside at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

Gerry was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Helen and Nicolas Kuchmay on August 23, 1941. She grew up in Philadelphia and Media, PA. While in high school she met her husband to be, Bill, at a teen hop and asked him to dance for a 'ladies' choice, that started a relationship that lasted for 68 years. Gerry and Bill married and raised two fine daughters.

After high school, Gerry worked several years for AT&T, and went to Loch Haven University in Loch Haven in, PA, for a year. Gerry continued her education at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE, as well as Miller-Motte Business college in Wilmington, NC. She later earned an associate’s degree from Pitt Community College in Greenville, NC, and pioneered work as a paralegal in Kinston, NC at White and Allen, PA. Always one to stay busy, Gerry also studied at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and later at Robinson’s Real Estate School in Morehead City, NC.

Gerry travelled around the world with her husband's business several times with 2 year stays in Iran and Singapore. Gerry and Bill eventually settled in Pine Knoll Shores, NC where she became a realtor with Century 21 Coastal Properties and later with Gull Isle Realty. She loved living where she could look out across the water and watch the boats and occasional dolphins go by.

Gerry’s professional achievements included the NC Academy of Trial Lawyers Legal Assistants Division, National Association of Legal Assistants, NC Paralegal Association Board of Directors / Membership Committee / Education Committee and speaker at the 1985 Annual Seminar. With her real estate career, Gerry was recognized with the Carteret County Association of Realtors, Inc., North Carolina Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtors.

Gerry's hobbies through life were watercolor painting, sailing, photography, music and dancing, travel, and watching the Fox Business Channel. She enjoyed most sports, playing golf and tennis at the Country Club Crystal Coast.

Gerry was a devoted, kind, and loving wife and mother.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, William “Bill” Johnson; her daughters, Nancy Johnson Meadows and her husband Wade of Lexington, VA, and Susie Poehler and her husband Denny of Richmond, VA; brother, Joseph Kuchmay and his wife Joanne of Florida; grandson, Will Meadows; granddaughter, Emma Poehler.

In addition to her parents, Gerry was preceded in death by her brother, John Kuchmay.
