MGySgt Gerald Wayne Rogers, USMC Retired, 86, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Pruitt Health - Crystal Coast.
Wayne was born on October 18, 1939, in Homestead, Florida. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Wayne dedicated 30 years of his life to serving his country, retiring with honor as a Master Gunnery Sergeant.
After his military career, Wayne worked for Walmart for 10 years and later volunteered his time and skills with Habitat for Humanity, always ready to help wherever he was needed.
Wayne loved woodworking and had a gift for fixing just about anything. He became well known in his neighborhood as the person you could count on — the one who showed up with tools, patience, and a kind heart. Whether it was a small repair or a bigger problem, Wayne never hesitated to help someone in need. To those who knew him, he was simply an all-around good man.
Above all, Wayne was devoted to his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered as a devoted husband of 55 years, a wonderful father, and a proud grandfather.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sally May Rogers of the home and daughter, Laura Elizabeth Rogers Griffin and husband David, and grandson, Kai Griffin all of Huntsville, AL.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his son, Daniel E. Rogers; sister, Carol Cook; brother, Robert Rogers; and his faithful canine, Ginger.
