George Zajac

George Zajac, 85, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Pruitt Health of the Crystal Coast.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Friday, May 23, concluding with military honors at Munden Funeral Home.

George was born on December 17, 1939, in McDonald, Ohio, to the late Ignatius and Jennie Zajac. He dedicated his life to family, service, and craftmanship. George’s early career began in the United States Air Force, where he served with honor and developed a lifelong love for aircraft. Following his military service, he contributed significantly to the space program through his work with Northrop Grumman and NASA, playing a role in the historic lunar landings, an achievement he held in high regard.

A man of deep intellect and wit, George had a curiosity and a talent for understanding how things worked. He was happiest when he was tinkering. His hobbies reflected his many loves; trains were one of them. A devoted bowler who owned and operated his own pro shop, and a lifelong lover of the water. His cherished boat, Lady Jane, brought him countless hours of happiness. George was a devoted husband to Priscilla, and the proud cornerstone of his family. He was a guiding presence, full of wisdom, humor, and love. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Robin Mattson (Johnnie) of Newport; son, John Zajac of Newport; sister, Carol Hapcic of McDonald, Ohio; and grandchildren, Elizabeth-Noelle Jenkins (Wesley) and Johnnie Mattson Jr.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Priscilla "Meme" Zajac, who passed way in February of this year; and his brothers, Paul and Ed.
