George Anthony "Tony" Worrell, 81, of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, following a brief illness.
A memorial service to honor Tony's life will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 22nd at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Inurnment will follow at the Church Columbarium.
Born on June 18, 1944, Tony was raised in Goldsboro, NC, by his parents, the late Waitus Woodrow Worrell and Marjorie Davis Worrell. He attended Goldsboro public schools and went on to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where he studied business.
Tony was hired by Cameron Brown, a Mortgage Bank in Raleigh, for 2 years prior to returning to Goldsboro to help his father run the family business, Wayco Ham Company. He resided in Goldsboro for 65 years.
Tony enjoyed helping his community by serving on several board: Branch Bank & Trust, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce for 2 terms, Boys & Girls Club of Wayne County, United Way, Committee of 100, and Chairman of the Military Affairs Committee.
Tony had a passion for races and completed 5 Ironman events, 2 in Hawaii. He also completed several marathons and Triathlons, enjoying each and every one smiling!
Tony is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sally Nash Borden Worrell; daughter, Lee Taylor, her husband Billy and their children, Nash and Arabella, all of Morehead City; son, George A. Worrell Jr. of Newport News, VA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Sara Frances Borden of Raleigh, NC; and many loving cousins. He loved his family dearly and was extremely proud of them.
