George Vernon Smith

George Vernon Smith, 76 of Morehead City, NC, died at Autumn Care of Raeford, NC on April 1, 2024. 

George was born in Winston Salem, NC to the late Mr. and Mrs. Norwood Otis Smith. He lived in Lexington, NC for about 40 years before moving to Morehead City, NC. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Aileen Smith; his parents; and sister, Theresa Hooks. 

George is survived by his sons, Jason Smith and fiancé Maryellen Langan and Justin Smith and wife Paige Strickland-Smith, all of Morehead City, NC. Grandchildren surviving are Mason Smith and Abigail Smith of Winston Salem, NC, Nathan Smith and Hayley Smith of Fairmont, NC, and Chatham and Palmer Smith of Morehead City, NC. 

George was a member of Friedberg Moravian Church in Winston Salem, NC for many years and also a member of First Methodist Church of Morehead City, NC. 

George was an outside sales representative for HVAC for years before he retired in 2013. He was a United States Army Vietnam Veteran who served in the 199th Light Infantry Brigade for 18 months. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be tremendously missed. 

A memorial service and interment will be held at 2 p.m., April 27, 2024, at Friedberg Moravian Church in Winston Salem, NC.
