George was born on April 2, 1951, in Morehead City, NC, to the late George Bedsworth Sr. and Doris Bedsworth. He started his firefighting career at the Morehead City Fire Department working there from 1977-1981. George switched gears and became the Dock Master at the Anchorage Marina where he worked from 1981-1997 so he could have more time with his family and work around the water, which he loved.
George fought a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis, overcoming hurdle after hurdle, always with a smile on his face and never a thought of complaining.
As a man of faith, George enjoyed being a member of his home church, First Baptist in Morehead City. He had a sharp memory and a joking side that you just had to love. George was known for his selfless nature, always putting the needs of those around him ahead of his own. Aside from his many attributes, George was a family man at his core. Nothing brought him more joy than creating memories with his family. You felt a sense of belonging when you were in his presence or just chatting on the phone. George will be deeply missed and eternally remembered.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his son, George Christian Bedsworth (Emily) of Pine Knoll Shores; daughter, Allison Bedsworth Long (Jonathan) of Beaufort; uncle, Edward Fulcher (Bonnie) of Morehead City; niece, Christi Piner (Eddie) of Texas; nephew, Craig Thompson (Francy) of Southern Pines, NC; special cousin, Danny Oglesby of Morehead City; grandchildren, Gage Keith Long, Kipton George Long, and Fisher Kemp Bedsworth; and special friend, Dean Steed (Cassie) of Morehead City.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Sarita Thompson, and brother-in-law Vernon Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mr. George to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2610 Wycliff Road, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27607.
