Gayle Cook Shannon, 76, of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Carteret Health Care.

Born on July 25, 1950, in Greensboro, North Carolina, Gayle was the daughter of the late Norman and Peggy Cook. She pursued a career devoted to caring for others, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and going on to work as a nurse anesthetist.

All that knew her would know that her greatest devotion was to all her four-legged friends. Her love for her place at Emerald Isle gave her immense joy.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sister, Angel Cook and brother-in-law, Don Best; brother, Floyd Cook and sister-in-law, Patti; and nephew, Nicholas Cook, his wife Sara, and their daughter, Ashby.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores
