Frances Rose Peeler, 81, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of September 23, 2025, after a long illness.
Fran was born in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina on October 3, 1943, to the late John Senn McGuire Peeler and Willie Josephine Miller Peeler. Fran graduated from Chapel Hill High School, as well as the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with her Bachelor's and Master’s Degrees in Social Work. She worked for many years for the State of North Carolina at O'Berry Neuro-Medical Treatment Center in Goldsboro with the bulk of her service years at Dorthea Dix Psychiatric Hospital in Raleigh as a valued, licensed social worker.
The many passions of her life included her pets (dogs and cats) over the years, colorful jewelry from the Gem Shows in Raleigh, watching her SOAPS daily, eating oysters on the half-shell, as well enjoying all seafood, Spanakopita, and raspberries. But her love for the beach, especially the Morehead City area, called to her to be where she retired.
Fran will be dearly remembered and missed by her nieces, Abigail Peeler (Ryan Haswell) of Durham, NC and Heather Bowers of Chapel Hill, NC; her nephews, Scott Peeler (Cheryl Drake) of Gotha, FL, and Greg Peeler (Misty) of Chapel Hill, NC; several great-nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Crystal Spence (Rick) of Richmond, VA; several cousins; and her dear friend, Isabel Hernandez of Beaufort, NC.
She was devastated at the sudden loss of her adored son, Joshua, and never recovered fully from his death. Fran was also predeceased by her parents; her beloved brother, Joel Henry Peeler; her infant sister, Sarah Cecelia Peeler; and her brother, John Scott Peeler.
The family is very grateful for the kind care given to our Fran by Carteret Landing Assisted Living, Crystal Coast Hospice House in Morehead City, and Isabel Hernandez.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, September 30th at Munden Funeral Home. An additional memorial will be held in Fran's remembrance and to comply with her wishes for the scattering of hers and Joshua's ashes at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Fran's memory to the SPCA1, your local animal shelter, Public Broadcast Service (PBS), or an organization of your choice.
Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
