Otway

Frances Rose Lewis, 92, of Otway, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Carteret Health Care.

A funeral service to honor Ms. Frances’ life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 27th at Lighthouse Chapel on Harkers Island, officiated by Rev. Ricky Rose. Interment will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, April 26th at Munden Funeral Home.

Frances was born on April 7, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Telford and Nancy Rose. Coming from a large and loving family, Frances was one of eleven children. Born and raised on Harkers Island, she was a longtime member of Lighthouse Chapel. Frances found great strength and peace in her relationship with the Lord.

In her younger years, Frances was a dedicated and skilled seamstress, working for numerous years at Bluebell Factory. Her attention to detail and skillful craftsmanship was something she took great pride in.

Blessed with love, Frances married Roy W. Lewis, raising a family together and creating beautiful memories. Her greatest family times included taking the family to their cabin on Shackleford Banks. Years after his passing, Frances found love again and was united with Rev. Harold E. Will. Throughout her life, she treasured her role as mother, and grandmother to the following generations.

Frances was lovingly referred to in Otway as the “white-haired lady cutting her grass”. She had a kind heart and gentle demeanor and always had a smile ready for those around her and a listening ear for anyone in need. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she touched the lives of many with her warmth and compassion. Frances loved opening her home to her church family and everyone loved her cooking, especially her Down East seafood and amazing light rolls.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Patsy Gould (Wally) of Newport and Juanita Gillikin of Otway; siblings, Nancy Carol Wells and Leon Telford Rose, grandchildren, Andrew Gould, Karen Gould, Bryan Allred, Patrick Allred, Mark Lewis, and Ashley McMillon; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; special niece, Kim Lupton; and special friend, her granddaughter-in-law, Michelle Lewis. Frances is also survived by her stepdaughters, Mary Jane DeWolfe and Rachel (Harry) Plank; 6 step-grandsons; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy W. Lewis Sr.; her second husband, Rev. Harold E. Will; son, Roy W. Lewis Jr.; sisters, Vonda Juanita Lawrence, Juanita Rose, Annie Lee Rose, and Sarah “Belva” Yeomans; brothers, James “Jack” Rose, Charles Rose, Dallas Rose, and William “Pete” Rose; son-in-law, Timothy Gillikin; and 1 step-grandson.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse Chapel, 957 Island Rd., Harkers Island, NC 28531.
