Fletcher “Duke” Myers, 85, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.
A memorial service, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 12th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Johnny Thompson.
Born on June 10, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Duke was the beloved son of the late Jim and Anna Myers.
A proud veteran, Duke honorably served his country in the United States Navy for 22 years. His service was marked by dedication, integrity, and an unwavering sense of duty. Following his military career, he remained committed to supporting fellow veterans as an active member of the VFW Post in Havelock, where he formed many lasting friendships.
Beyond his service to his country, Duke’s greatest joy was his family. He was a loving husband for more than 50 years, a devoted father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
Duke will be remembered for his strength, his kindness, and the deep pride he took in both his family and his country.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Mercedes Myers; daughter, Joan McCartney (Jeffrey) of Newport, NC; son, Joseph DiCorsi of Newport, NC; grandchildren, Jessica Scruggs and Jason McCartney (Sandee); and great-grandchildren, Madison Dixon, Juliet Dixon, Skylar Scruggs, Daxon Scruggs, Charlotte Scruggs, Mollie Jo McCartney, and Madison McCartney.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
