Everett "Buster" Carter
Lyon III
December 9, 1958 — July 6, 2026
With profound sadness and immeasurable love, we announce the passing of Everett C. “Buster” Lyon, III, who passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, in Morehead City, North Carolina, at the age of 67.
A memorial service to honor Buster’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 16th at Munden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Born on December 9, 1958, in Richmond, Virginia, Buster was the beloved son of the late Everett C. Lyon, Jr. and Audrey Joan Lyon.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sarah Peay Lyon; his daughter, Amy Lyon Bakalov (Dennis Buchanan); his son, Everett C. “Chip” Lyon, IV (Alyssa); and his cherished grandchildren, Madison Bakalov, Reagan Bakalov, Ashton Bakalov, Brooklyn Buchanan, Aubryn Buchanan, and Carter Lyon.
He is also survived by his loving sisters, Debbie Hughes, Susan Carrico (John), Meg Fulwiler, and Shirl Vandiver (Mark); his brother, Michael Lyon (Sarah); and many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who became family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Becky Ashby.
Buster dedicated the last years of his career to Duke Energy as a Meter Technician, where he was admired not only for his technical expertise, but also for his exceptional customer service, creative problem-solving, and remarkable ability to bring people together. He was a trusted teammate, a natural leader, and someone who made work more enjoyable simply by being there.
If you knew Buster, chances are he made you smile. He had an extraordinary gift for lighting up every room he entered. His infectious laugh, quick wit, and genuine interest in others made friends of strangers and family of friends. It was often said that Buster never met a stranger, and those fortunate enough to meet him usually walked away with a smile—and a funny story to tell.
More than anything, Buster loved people. He cherished his family with all his heart and treasured the countless friendships he made throughout his life. He found joy in surprising others with thoughtful gifts, an unexpected phone call, a visit “just because,” or one of his perfectly timed practical jokes. He had a way of making people feel special, remembered, and loved.
An avid golfer and enthusiastic collector, Buster had a lifelong appreciation for toys, gadgets, and the latest and greatest of just about everything. His playful curiosity and youthful spirit never left him.
Buster lived a life that was full—full of laughter, generosity, adventure, and love. He celebrated the good in people, found humor in everyday moments, and left every place brighter than he found it. His greatest legacy is not found in the things he owned or the work he accomplished, but in the countless lives he touched with his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering love.
Though our hearts are broken by his loss, we are forever grateful for the years we shared with him. We will miss his laugh, his stories, his hugs, and the unmistakable sparkle he brought wherever he went. His memory will live on in every smile he inspired, every story retold, and every life made better simply because he was part of it.
He lived big. He loved fiercely. He laughed often. And he made this world a brighter place simply by being in it.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our Buster.
