Obituary

Eugenia Ann Bright Rudd, a beloved mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at The Gardens of Trent in New Bern.

A funeral service to honor Eugenia's life will be held at Peletier First Missionary Baptist Church. Service details will be shared once finalized.

Eugenia was born on July 24, 1943, in Wilmington, North Carolina, and was raised in Stella, where she formed the strong values of family and compassion that would guide her throughout her life. Eugenia was the cherished daughter of the late Woodrow Willison Bright and Mellie Carol Humphrey Bright.

Eugenia devoted many years of her life to nursing, a profession that reflected her caring heart and selfless nature. She found joy in reading and traveling, always appreciating the quiet moments as well as the adventure of new places.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Walter Douglas Rudd (Lorraine) and Wanda Jo Hollis (Carl); her six grandchildren, Colleen, Danielle, Brandon, Spencer, Ayla, and Malachi; and her six great-grandchildren, Cooper, Henry, Bennett, Sebastian, Olivia, and Cecilia. 

In addition to her parents, Eugenia was preceded in death by her daughter, Belinda Carol Rudd; and her siblings, William Robert Bright, Elaine Annette Bright Church, Woodrow Willison Bright Jr., and Edna Anez Bright.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Peletier First Missionary Baptist Church, 1300 NC-58, Cape Carteret, NC 28584.
