Emma was born on December 9, 1942, to the late Luther and Louise Nelson. She was born and raised in Alabama until her family moved to Florida in her early teenage years. At the tender age of 18, she married her sweetheart, Charles, in September of 1960. Together they raised a family of one daughter and three sons in Florida. In 1990, Charles and Emma moved to North Carolina with sons, Travis, and Greg. They were blessed with over 62 years of marriage. Their life journey together was a testament to their commitment and devotion to one another.

Throughout her life, she worked as a home health aide, providing a reassuring balm to numerous families over the years through her constant presence and faithful, dedicated assistance. In quiet moments, Emma found joy in the intricate puzzles of crosswords, a reflection of her sharp mind and love for challenges.
