Elaine Jean Byrge White, 85, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 9th at First Methodist Church in Morehead City.
Born on August 17, 1939, in Madison, Wisconsin, Elaine was the daughter of the late Laona Brink and Clifford Byrge. She had two wonderful sisters, Sandi Byrge Von-Eshen and the late Carol Byrge Lanham.
Elaine was married to Elder White for 53 years before his passing in 2010. Elder and Elaine reared three children in Ahoskie, NC: Jody, Jill, and Joel. Jill passed away from cancer in 2023.
Elaine was a nurse for almost 40 years in Ahoskie. She moved to Beaufort in 2011 and quickly became active in the community. She joined the Beaufort Garden Club, participated in Parades, loved music on the docks, playing cards, doing puzzles and BUNCO. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Morehead City. She was the face and inspiration of the Beaufort Home Shoppe.
Elaine is survived by her son, Joel E. White; daughter, Jody W. Smith and her husband Charlie (“favorite son-in-law”); granddaughter, Jena Smith Corey and her husband Lewis; grandson, Chip Smith; four great grandsons whom she loved with all heart, Witt, Smith, Colton, and Chase; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
