Edward Wallace Mullis, Sr. "Wally"

October 27, 1933 — January 24, 2024

Morehead City

On January 24, 2024, Edward Wallace Mullis, Sr. "Wally" left this earthly life to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in eternal life.

Wally was born in Monroe, NC to Daniel and Manora Mullis. He is a graduate of High Point University as well as a United States Army Veteran. In his professional life, he worked for Nationwide Insurance from which he retired in 1989.

By his side in life was his beautiful bride, Jo, who preceded him in death. She and Wally enjoyed traveling with their boys as they grew up. Upon Wally's retirement from Nationwide Insurance, they moved to Emerald Isle, NC where they enjoyed the beach, their beautiful house on the sound, and having their grandchildren every summer for weeks at a time. Wally worked his retirement job at Island Hardware and Ace Hardware where he served as "the helpful hardware man"! Wally and Jo moved to Brandywine in Morehead City in 2001 where he served on the HOA for Hammock's Place. They were members at Saint James United Methodist Church and volunteers for the thrift shop for many years.

During their retirement, they continued their travels by going to Germany and other countries where they had the memories to last a lifetime. The later years of his life were marked with bird and squirrel watching, working in the yard, and tinkering with anything he could. He loved taking his great-grandchildren around the yard to show them the plants and animals.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Brooksyne "Jo" Mullis; his parents, Daniel and Manora Mullis; brothers, Homer, Calvin, Melvin, and Robert; and sisters, Eula, Dorothy, Audie, Archie, Myrtle, and Leslie.

He is survived by his devoted sons, Edward "Ed" Mullis, Jr. and wife Sandy, Steve Mullis and wife Brenda; his grandchildren, Steven Mullis, Jennifer LaVelle and husband Don, and Briana Mullis; his great-grandchildren, Juliet, Adeline, and Theodore LaVelle; his sister, Margaret Hill; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A funeral service to honor Wally's life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, January 27th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Karl Zorowski. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Newport. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home's website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
