Edward Hazard Gardiner

Edward Gardiner, 80, of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at his home.

Edward was born on April 12, 1942, in Wakefield, Rhode Island, to the late Fred and Madeline Gardiner. Honorably serving in the United States Army, Edward was proud of his 4-year military career and service to his country. Being on the open road was a familiar site for Edward who had a long and fulfilling 45-year career as a truck driver.

Known for his delicious meals, Edward’s creativity in the kitchen was something of a wonder. He knew what ingredients went together and was never shy in experimenting with a new dish. His fury little friends, Zoey and Abby were forever by his side which made him as happy as could be. Edward will be fondly remembered as a loving husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl A. Gardiner; sons, John Edward Gardiner of Connellsville, PA, Gregory Allen Gardiner of Somerset, PA; stepsons, Robert Haupt of Friedens, PA, Richard Thomas McKenzie of Meyersdale, PA, Barry Allen McKenzie (Kimberly) of Berlin, PA and Terry Edward McKenzie (Heather) of Somerset, PA; sister-in-law, Cindy Sides; brother-in-law, Guy Miller (Jeanie); 24 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Potter, Janet Gardiner, Beverly Gardiner, Gladys Pierce, and Faith Baldwin; brother, Fred Thomas; and stepsons, Timothy James McKenzie and Charles Allen McKenzie.
