Edward Earl Corbett, 84, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on September 11, 2025.
In accordance with his wishes, the family will honor and celebrate his life at a later date.
Ed was born on June 16, 1941, in Snow Hill, NC, to the late Leamon “Rock” and Beulah Corbett. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, demonstrating dedication and commitment throughout his life.
Ed had a diverse career that spanned various fields, including farming, carpentry, and retail sales at Sears Roebuck. Most notably, he dedicated many years as a longshoreman with the North Carolina Port Authority. But of all his skills, talents and jobs, his most favorite role was being a granddaddy.
In his free time, Ed enjoyed the great outdoors, always happy to go hunting and fishing. He also had a knack for treasure hunting, often visiting thrift stores in search of unique bargains.
Ed often shared wise words that reflected his values: “Get your soul right with your Heavenly Father and take care of your family. Try to remember these 4 things, don’t take wooden nickels, don’t put all your eggs in one basket, a fool and his money soon part, and he who buys what he does not need will often need what he cannot buy.”
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Danette Guthrie (Bunky) of Newport, NC; son, Edward Glenn Corbett (Denise) of Newport, NC; sisters, Gloria Jene Corbett Rhue of Newport, NC and Mary Rose Corbett Clapsadl (Danny) of Newport, NC; grandsons, Carl Edward Corbett (Rachel) of Goldsboro, NC, Joseph Earl Corbett (Olivia) of Morehead City, NC, and Hunter Chance Guthrie of Newport, NC; great-grandchildren, Abigail Claire Corbett of Goldsboro, NC, Addison Elizabeth Corbett of Morehead City, NC, and Elijah Edward Corbett of Goldsboro, NC; special neighbor, Lisa Fry Birkett and her daughter Courtney; special friends, Marty Muns and Gary Treece; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Irene Corbett Pringle (TL) of Newport, NC; and brothers, Fred Patrick Corbett of Zebulon, NC and John “JL” Corbett (Marie) of Newport, NC.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers or meals, that donations be made in Ed’s memory to a church of one’s choice.
