Edna Wiggins Fulcher, 88, of Sea Level, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
A graveside service to honor Edna’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 15th at the Styron Creek Cemetery in Sea Level, officiated by Rev. Nelson Koonce.
Edna was born on March 22, 1936, in Bettie, NC to the late Benjamin and Carrie Wiggins. In high school, she excelled as a talented basketball athlete, a passion she carried with her throughout her life. Alongside her late husband, Garland who served in the U.S. Coast Guard, Edna loved playing basketball with the Navy wives. Her steady support for UNC Basketball reflected her enduring love for the game. Beyond sports, Edna loved to sunbathe, soaking in the warmth of the sun.
Edna’s true joy came from being a devoted and nurturing mother, always putting the needs of her loved ones above her own. It was that same dedication and care that she gave her patients, working faithfully as a Licensed Practical Nurse, blessing numerous individuals and their families. Her altruistic nature shone brightly as she dedicated herself to serving both her community and those in need. Edna's acts of kindness were driven solely by a genuine desire to bring happiness to others, never seeking recognition or praise for her endless generosity.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Etta “Mike” Fulcher Nunnery of Sea Level; son, Andrew Clyde Fulcher of Morehead City; sister, Gladys Wiggins Lewis of Marshallberg; grandchildren, Michael Lupton, Dante Dino III, Dana Elliott, and Victoria Simmons; great-grandchildren, Michaela Lupton, Andrew Lupton, Tristyn Dino, Sebastian Dino, and Alex Lopez Goodwin; 5 great-great-grandchildren; longstanding companion and friend, Samuel Lee Willis of Harkers Island; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Garland Clyde Fulcher in 2005; and siblings, Clara Willis and Leland Wiggins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sea Level Methodist Church or Carteret Hospice.
Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences.
