Dr. Eric Lindsay Fearrington, M.D.

Dr. Eric Lindsay Fearrington, M.D., 91, of Pine Knoll Shores, formerly of Greenville, passed away on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023, at his home.

His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 4th at St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church in Salter Path, officiated by The Rev. Everett Thomas.

Eric was born on January 16, 1932, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Mr. Eric Cyril Fearrington and Mrs. Mildred Vogler Fearrington. After graduating from R.J. Reynolds High School in Wilson Salem, NC.

Dr. Fearrington went on to further his education, pursuing his intrigue in medicine and obtaining his doctorate from the University Of North Carolina School Of Medicine. He honorably served as a Lieutenant, Medical Corp in the United States Navy commissioned in 1953 and retired in 1963. Among his numerous accomplishments, Dr. Fearrington was the first Cardiologist in Greenville, NC, establishing a full-time practice from 1963-1993. He was instrumental in the development of Vidant’s heart tower and getting the ECU school of medicine started. He was a professor of cardiology at the Brody School of Medicine from 1990-2014, earning the honor of Professor Emeritus. He was dedicated to his patients and his students throughout his life, and was deeply passionate about using his knowledge to help and in sharing that knowledge with others.

Upon retiring full time to the Crystal Coast, Dr Fearrington was instrumental in getting the Cardiac Cath lab added to Carteret General Hospital. Dr. Fearrington became a member of the St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church. Coastal life was a perfect fit for his love of fishing, golf, and dogs. He often enjoyed long rides on the open water ways, appreciating the beauty of the vast ocean and the peacefulness it provided.

Those meaning to cherish his memory include his loving wife Delores M. Fearrington of the home; his daughter Tracy Fearrington Reed and husband Kenneth of Suffolk, VA-his sons, Eric Steven Fearrington of Greenville, NC and Clifford Sean Fearrington and wife Joanne of Redding, CA. His brother, Butch Fearrington and wife Cynthia Fearrington of Winston Salem, NC; sister-in-law Carol Fearrington of Winston Salem, NC; grandchildren, Sean Fearrington of Redding, CA, Alex Fearrington of Redding, Crosby Reed of Suffolk, VA, Eric Tanner Reed of Alexandria, VA, Teague Reed of Suffolk, VA; and his beloved dog, Teddy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Maryann Ragland, and his brother, Richard Fearrington.
