Dr. William “Ed” Edward Dail, 80, of Newport, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his home.
A graveside service to honor Ed’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 13 at Graham Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Robbie Strickland.
Ed was born on October 10, 1944, in Greenville, North Carolina, to the late Jack and Martha Dail. A lifelong learner, he spent over 24 years expanding his knowledge. His commitment to education didn’t stop there, he went on to earn his doctorate and used it by teaching leadership courses at Camp Lejeune and working at Cherry Point as the administrator of civilian personnel training.
A gifted writer, Ed, authored 27 books and using his eloquence and insight he wrote speeches for the governor, continuing to use his talents in service of others. Ed enjoyed his time outdoors, whether deer hunting or fishing, he loved being in nature. He will be remembered for his wisdom and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his son, William Dail (Mary) of Newport, N.C., Paul “Pokey” Dail (Beth) of Newport, N.C.; sister, Wendy Troop of Newport, N.C.; grandchildren, Ashley Dail, Michele Fulcher; and several loving great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife Cynthis Mann Dail; brothers, Jack Dail, Jim Dail, Dalton Dail, and Thurman “Pete” Dail.
