Doris Nichols Carver, 89, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.
A memorial service to honor Doris’ life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 20 at Munden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. Doris will be laid to rest at a later date at Beersheba Presbyterian Church Cemetery in York, SC.
Doris was born on September 1, 1935, in York, South Carolina, to the late Guy and Mable Nichols. Known for her strength and bravery, Doris was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Working as a charter boat captain for many years, Doris enjoyed fishing along the eastern seaboard, primarily in Charleston and Key West.
Doris lived on the Crystal Coast for almost 35 years, where she enjoyed the area and was the proud owner of Glenn Grove Mobile Home Park in Morehead City. She had a huge heart for animals and took great pleasure in caring for them.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her son, Barney Leon Culp Jr. (Madelyn) of Emerald Isle, NC; sisters, Bunny Nichols of Earl, NC and Kay Hames (George) of Gaffney, SC; brother, David Nichols of Anderson, NC; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Carver; daughter, Vicky Diane Culp; sister, Shirley Nichols; brother, Tommy Nichols; and sister-in-law, Freida Nichols.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to the Carteret County Humane Society, 853 Hibbs Rd., Newport, NC 28570.
