Obituary

Donald “Don” Leroy Griggs Sr., 70, of Morehead City, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at his home.

A memorial service to honor Don’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 21 at Munden Funeral Home officiated by Ryan Marshall. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Don was born on December 27, 1955, in Claremore, Oklahoma, to Carl Odell Griggs and Deloris Ann Griggs. He proudly served his country in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army, carrying the values of his commitment throughout his life. Don was an active member of Glad Tidings Church until 1994 and then became a member of One Harbor Church in 2009 where he enjoyed the fellowship.

Don was a generous person who never hesitated to help anyone in need. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making people smile. Being a grandpa was one of his greatest joys. He treasured every moment spent with his children, especially swimming with them when they were younger.

Don had a special love for the state of Oklahoma. He had a talent in the kitchen; his homemade carrot cake and pound cake became family favorites. Don’s soulmate was his wife Betsy, and he cared for her even though his health was declining. He would do anything in the world for her. Though he has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior, his faith, generosity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sons, Donnie Griggs (Jill) of Morehead City, N.C., Curtis Griggs (Jennifer) of Morehead City, N.C.; brother, Carl Odell Griggs Jr. of Hot Springs, Arkansas; sister, Deedra Ann Carpenter (Coy) of Prague, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jed Griggs, Wyatt Griggs, and Ayden Rock.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Betsy Jane Griggs; and sister, Sharon Kay Parks.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to One Harbor Church for their Addiction Recovery Program, 1605 Fisher Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.

Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
