Disha Laverne Smith Taylor

Disha Laverne Smith Taylor, 77, of Newport, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Crystal Coast Hospice House.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 6th at Broad Creek Community Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Robbie Strickland. The family will receive friends prior to the service.

Laverne was born on September 13, 1945, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late Richard and Lola Smith. She loved spending time on the water, catching mullet and enjoying the beauty of our coast. Laverne enjoyed cooking roast and homemade mashed potatoes for her family. She loved cook outs and any event that would bring her loved ones together. She especially enjoyed spending time with her sons and grandchildren.

Laverne loved to sew and embroider and made beautiful designs. She enjoyed watching TV, her favorite shows being General Hospital, Gun Smoke, any Western and all the old classic movies. Laverne’s kind and caring personality will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, Richard Adrian Taylor and Jerry Esdorn Taylor Jr., both of Broad Creek; siblings, Jerome Smith (Valerie) of Broad Creek and Francine Smith of Cedar Point; grandchildren, Felicia Taylor of Beaufort, Shaina Young (Blake) of Beaufort, and Alexis Nicole Taylor of Broad Creek; and great grandchild, Dawson Young of Beaufort.

In addition to her parents, Laverne was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Jerry Taylor Sr.; and her brothers, Paul Richard Smith and Dennis Austin Smith.
