Diane Anita Grigalis (born Szydlowski), age 68, of Havelock, North Carolina, and formerly of Keller, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on May 24, 1957, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Diane was the daughter of the late Joann Koch and Leonard Szydlowski.
Diane devoted nearly 40 years of her professional life to the banking and credit union industry, serving as a dedicated Loan Officer known for her compassion, integrity, and exceptional service. As a proud military spouse, she supported her husband Edgar throughout their family’s many moves across the United States, building a loving home wherever life took them. Diane also cherished traveling the world, visiting Asia, Australia, and Europe, experiences she often reflected on in the poems she wrote privately throughout her life.
Diane’s gentle nature was one of her defining qualities, shown even in the way she lovingly returned every spider she found to the outdoors. She had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dog, Samson. Creative at heart, she enjoyed crafting, needlepoint, wreath making, decorating her home, and watching classic films. She loved getting dressed up, reading, and appreciating the simple beauty in the world around her.
She is survived by her husband, Edgar Grigalis; her son, Nicholas (Amanda) Grigalis; her daughter, Christina (Craig) Harter; her cherished grandchildren, Caleb Harter, Avery Grigalis, and Madison Lennard; her brother, David (Inge) Szydlowski; her sister, Darlene (Lance) Forest; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents.
Diane loved beauty, warmth, and togetherness, and her family hopes her service will reflect that. Please join us for a celebration of her life, where casual attire and shared memories are welcomed. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 1st at 10:00 AM at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock, NC, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
