Daphne Dudley Wood

March 6, 1939 — September 25, 2025

Newport

The remarkable life of Daphne Dudley Wood has completed its Earthly mission. Daphne was received into the loving arms of her Heavenly Family on September 25, 2025.

Daphne was born on March 6, 1939, to the late Henrietta and Cecil Dudley. She was born and raised in the small fishing village of Beaufort, North Carolina, before bridges, restaurants, and crowds. Her young life gave a joyous remembrance of dirt roads and fish houses when the only way to get from here to there was by boat.

Daphne was blessed with 66 years with her wonderful, caring husband, Richard Wood. They married in 1959 while he was serving at the Coast Guard Station at Fort Macon. Her family was her pride and joy. She gave up many years of her own time to watch and raise not only her own children, but the grandchildren, whom she loved like her own. In their retirement, she loved travelling with Richard in their RV along with her beloved Yorkie, Tiffany. As her journey to Heaven became apparent, she would sing the gospel songs that always meant so much to her.

Daphne is survived by her beloved husband, Richard Wood and 4 daughters, Kim Wetherington and husband John, Debbie Callaway and husband Clark, Beth Blot and husband Harry, and Susie Wilson and husband Tim. She was also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Daphne was preceded in death by 5 sisters, 2 brothers, and her baby grandson, John Wetherington.

The family will celebrate her life privately at a later date.
