Claude Gerry Gillikin, 68, of Otway, North Carolina, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
A celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 2nd at Refuge Fellowship Church on Harkers Island, officiated by Pastor Manley B. Rose Jr. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
Gerry was born on August 8, 1957, in Morehead City, NC. He retired from the North Carolina State Ferry Division, where he dedicated years of dependable service. Known for his mechanical skill and steady hands, he could fix just about anything placed in front of him. Whether it was a car, a boat, or something that "just wasn't running right," Gerry was the one people called.
He loved being on the water, especially taking the boat out and heading to the Cape. The coast was home to him, and some of his happiest days were spent there. He also had a love for motorcycles and enjoyed riding in the mountains, especially on memorable trips shared with his son Joshua - time together that will always be treasured.
Gerry was a man who told you exactly where you stood. He was honest, direct, and straightforward -but he would also help anyone who truly needed it. His actions spoke louder than words, and those who knew him understood the depth of his loyalty and love.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the engines he repaired, the waters he traveled, and the family he loved.
Gerry is survived by his son, Joshua Gillikin and wife Rachel; his grandson, Carter Gillikin; his mother, Connie G. Gaskill; his brother, Devery Gillikin; his sister, Sannie Gillikin; and his niece and nephews, Megan Gillikin, Daniel Gillikin, Mark Styron, and Jack Davis Jr.
He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Gillikin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Research Institute,29 Broadway, Floor 4, New York, NY 10006.
