C. Robert Lloyd, 84, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at ECU Health Medical Center.
A memorial service to honor Robert’s life will be held at a later date, service details will be shared once finalized.
Born on March 14, 1941, in Durham, NC, Robert was the son of the late Bennie Lee Lloyd and Lillian Lloyd. After earning his bachelor’s degree Robert embarked on a commendable career as a chemical engineer. In 1965, Robert began his tenure at RJ Reynolds and was a part of the start-up group that formed the plant in Tobaccoville, NC where he served in various capacities, ultimately retiring as a Director in 1993.
After relocating to the coast, Robert attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He had a great passion for fishing and loved to travel extensively, appreciating the opportunity to explore new places, learn about different cultures, and meet new friends along the way.
Robert will be lovingly remembered as a loving husband, caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who will be greatly missed by his loved ones.
Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Shelvey Funai Lloyd; his daughter, Susan Lynn Lloyd of Newport, NC; his son, Robert Lowell Lloyd of Newport, NC; step-daughters, Anne Funai Page (Hoke) of Newport, NC and Joyce Stallings of Winston-Salem, NC; step-sons, Richard Carter Funai (Kelly) of Wilmington, NC, Eric Matal of Wake Forest, NC, Vince Matal (Doris) of Raleigh, NC, and Jeff Stallings (Pamela) of Winston-Salem, NC; along with grandchildren, Austin Ray Nalley, Sailor Elizabeth Funai, and Ana Shelvey Page; great-grandson, Mason Banks McFann; his dedicated caregiver, Tawyna Davis; and his beloved cats, Tiger and Meeow. Robert is also remembered fondly by his former wives who remained his close friends, Judy Lynn Bromhal Lloyd of Winston-Salem, NC, and Cynthia Meyer Matal Lloyd of Goldberg, NC.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Bennie Lee Lloyd Penny; former wife, Shirley Stallings Lloyd; and step-daughter, Jean Nalley (Donnie).
