Clara G. Rizzo

Clara G. Rizzo, 90, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.

A funeral mass to honor Clara’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 17th at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock, Rev. Tom Davis presiding. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Born on October 25, 1934, in Morehead City, NC, Clara was the youngest of nine children of the late Rudolph and Cannie Guthrie. She actively served in the altar guild at St. Egbert Catholic Church and was a dedicated member of the Garden Club.

Clara was a familiar and friendly face, best known for her long-standing career at the A&P grocery store in Morehead City. Over the course of nearly 30 years, she advanced to the position of assistant manager, where her exceptional organizational skills contributed significantly to the store's success.

Clara’s caring nature, along with her tender heart, endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. More than anything, her greatest treasure in life was her family, with whom she loved spending time.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Laura H. Lamm and husband Jesse Lamm Lr. of Fayetteville, NC and granddaughter, Jessica May Lamm of Newport, NC.

In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Rizzo, and siblings, Louise Frances Guthrie, Eveard Guthrie, Elsie Viola Murdoch, Myra E. Guthrie, Laura G. Maddox, Rudolph E. Guthrie, Franklin P. Guthrie, and Durham Hill Guthrie.
