With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Clara Belle Johnson Brooks at the beautiful age of 93, at her residence in Harkers Island, North Carolina, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
Clara was born August 12, 1931, in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Her love of cooking and baking desserts came from her employment at Miss Annie’s Restaurant in Morehead City, North Carolina. She was highly skilled with knitting needles and crochet hooks, she thoroughly enjoyed puzzles, followed by her love of reading old western books, and collecting elegant porcelain dolls.
Family Who Went Before ~ She was the beloved daughter of the late Moutrie and Ruth Johnson; sister of six siblings, Lois Johnson, Irene Johnson, Doris Johnson, Frances Johnson, Louise Johnson, and J.D. Johnson; and mother to her only son, Glen Ray Southerland, all of whom have passed before her.
Family She Left Behind ~ She is survived by her husband, Bill Brooks of 59 years; stepsons, Anthony and Kevin; and fur baby dog, Belle. She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted brothers-in-law, John Michael Davis (Linda), and Bobby Brooks (Dee); along with several nieces, nephews, and great-nephews to whom she will always carry a special place in their hearts for her. She was a dear friend to all whose lives she touched.
A big hug and special thank you to the wonderful caregivers of Gentiva Hospice, Sunny, Donna, and Chaplain, for your loving kindness and for providing invaluable care for Clara.
The family will celebrate the life of Clara at 11 a.m., on Saturday, August 31st at the John W. Guthrie Family Cemetery, 509 Island Road on Harkers Island, officiated by Pastor Manley Rose Jr.
Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences.
