Wilmington

Christopher Whitfield Kimbro, 54, of Wilmington, NC, (formerly of Atlantic Beach) passed away on September 28, 2025, at his home.

A memorial service to honor Christopher’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 1st at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website.

Chris was born in Greenville, NC, on January 4, 1971. He grew up in Rocky Mount and graduated from Rocky Mount Academy in 1989. He earned a bachelor's degree of Geology at East Carolina University in 1995. He later earned degrees in Associates of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems from Carteret Community College in 2014 and a BS in Industrial Technology from ECU in 2016. He has worked several jobs throughout the years, including hydrogeology, computers, and restaurants.

Chris was passionate about many things and poured his whole heart into everything he did. He was a very talented drummer, forming and playing in several successful bands from the time he was fifteen. He met Rickie when she joined one such band (Comfy Chair) as the keyboard player in 2000. They married in New Orleans in 2003. A skilled surfer, he lived for the thrill of chasing powerful swells, never missing a chance to ride an epic wave, especially when hurricanes were rolling in or fading away. He was also an awesome cook who delighted in creating special dishes, bringing much joy to others.

Chris took great pride in being punctual wherever he went and referred to himself as Captain Krono because he was always on time and the only one capable of getting the family anywhere on time. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and ECU Pirates football, always looking forward to the start of a new season and insisted on making time to watch as much NFL as possible on TV each week. He also enjoyed spending quality time and fun in the sun at the beach with his kids during the summers and working with them in the yard. Chris was a charismatic, mischievous, giving, and fun-loving guy who was always thoughtful of others, and enjoyed entertaining and making others laugh. He had a sparkle in his eyes and a smile that lit up the room, and he always made sure his loved ones knew how much he cared about them. Chris will be greatly missed.

Chris is survived by his former wife and love of his life, Rickie Lee Kimbro, son, Noah, and daughter, Olivia Kimbro, of Atlantic Beach, brother, David Kimbro, sister-in-law, Randall, nephew, James, and niece, Lillian Kimbro, of Massachusetts, grandmother, Jennie, and uncle, Keith Kimbro, of Durham, NC, aunt, Sandra Bryant, of Maryland, and cousins, Torey Vanek, of Virginia, Leigh Falkler, of Maryland, and Lindsay Brooker, of Colorado.

Chris was pre-deceased by his father, Carlton Eugene Kimbro, Jr., of Yanceyville, and mother, Marilyn Whitfield Kimbro, of Kinston, NC.
