Newport

Charles "Piggy" Edward Culpepper Sr., 80, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023, at The Village of Kinston.

A graveside service to honor Piggy's life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 2nd at the Chadwick Family Cemetery in Mill Creek, officiated by Bishop Jeffrey Lee Howard.

Charles, known by friends and family as "Piggy", was born on July 14, 1943, in Carteret County, North Carolina, to the late Otis B. and Nannie Culpepper. In a loving home of 12 children, Piggy had a great appreciation for family and the bonds he shared with his siblings.

Piggy was a man of strong faith, always finding peace in his relationship with the Lord. His love for gospel hymns brought joy to his heart and you could often hear him singing those old familiar tunes. Piggy always gave praise to God and was happy to acknowledge how the Lord worked in his life.

One of Piggy's greatest joys was sharing a meal with loved ones. Whether it was a family gathering or a casual dinner with friends, he loved good food and great company.

Professionally, Piggy dedicated numerous years of service to the NC State Port Authority as a skilled heavy equipment operator. He took great pride in his job and approached each task with determination and skill.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Lynn Howard and husband Jeffrey of LaGrange; son, Charles E. Culpepper Jr. and wife Cathy of Newport; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The last of his siblings, Piggy was preceded in death by his sisters, Sadie Culpepper Cribb, Mary Chadwick, and Lena May Locklear; and brothers, Baby Henry, Jessie Culpepper, Joseph Culpepper, Nick Culpepper, Otis Culpepper Jr., Billy Culpepper, Benjamin Culpepper, and R.L. Culpepper. He was also preceded in death by his loving daughter-in-law, Kristie Rouse Culpepper.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
