Charles Harvey
Ewing Sr.
February 17, 1943 — September 8, 2026
Havelock
Charles Harvey Ewing, Sr., passed away on September 8, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, knowledge, generosity, and devotion to his family and community.
A visitation to honor Charles' life will be held on Tuesday, October 13th at Munden Funeral Home in Havelock. The visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with Masonic Rites beginning at 6 p.m.
Charles was born and raised in the borough of Queens in New York City. He spent the majority of his life in Massachusetts, where he raised his family. Approximately 23 years ago, he relocated to Havelock, North Carolina, where he entered what he called his “retirement years.”
Retirement, however, did not mean slowing down for Charles. He became deeply involved in his community and dedicated significant time to the Masonic Lodge. He led numerous fundraising efforts and building improvement projects, always willing to put his knowledge, skills, and time to work for the benefit of others. He also served his neighborhood by leading a community watch program.
Charles proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 until 1993, retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant, E-7. His military career was an important part of his life and reflected the discipline, dedication, and commitment to service that he carried with him throughout his years. Throughout his career, Charles wore many hats and accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience. He was a master carpenter, vocational teacher, real estate broker, and construction company owner. He had a natural ability to understand how things worked and, perhaps more importantly, a willingness to share what he knew with others.
His friends will remember Charles as a man who seemed to have an answer for almost any question. He possessed a tremendous amount of knowledge and used it to the best of his ability to help those around him. His family will remember him as a generous man who freely gave his time, resources, and expertise whenever someone needed help.
Charles is survived by his four adult children: Charles Ewing, Jr.; Christopher Ewing; Kerri Moscato; and Kevin Rand. He is also survived by his only sibling, James Russell Ewing. He leaves behind more than 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, continuing a family legacy that will carry his memory forward for generations to come.
Charles Harvey Ewing, Sr. lived a life defined by service—to his country, his community, his friends, and most importantly, his family. His knowledge, generosity, hard work, and willingness to help others will be deeply missed and long remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
