Charles was born on November 1, 1942, to the late Walter Douglas Arthur and Evelyn Grace Arthur. Born in Beaufort, he was a lifelong resident of the town he dearly loved. Charles appreciated coastal life, where he loved being on and near the water, where one of his favorite pastimes was fishing.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In recognition of his courage and sacrifice, he was awarded both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
A devoted Christian, Charles faithfully attended Beaufort by the Sea Community Church, where he rarely missed a Sunday service. He was also a former member of the Beaufort Rotary Club and valued the friendships and fellowship he found within his community.
Above all, Charles was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a faithful friend. His love for his family was evident in all he did, and he will be remembered for his steadfast faith, kind heart, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 62 years, Sherry Wetherington Arthur; daughter, Jaime McCarthy (Patrick) of Beaufort, NC; son, Chuck Arthur (Kelly) of Beaufort, NC; grandchildren, Charlee, Carson, Carlin, Dylan, and Cade; great-grandchildren, Haze and Goldie; numerous loving nieces and nephews; and his cherished dog, Choo-Choo.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Sandy Arthur, Buddy Smith, and Junie Smith.
