Born on October 16, 1956, in Sea Level, NC, Carol was the loving daughter of the late Wesley and Eleanor "Grams" Salter. After graduating from East Carteret High School, Carol embarked on a fulfilling career at Sailor’s Snug Harbor, where she was one of its original employees since its opening in 1976. She continued when they transitioned to Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay, serving as the front office receptionist until the facility's closing in December 2019. Carol welcomed all who visited, answering calls and greeting guests with kindness, a smile and often a contagious laugh.
Carol was a devoted member of Davis Free Will Baptist Church. She served as the treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary and was always ready to help with crafts during VBS. While she often criticized her own cooking, her family praised the meals she prepared for them. At the top of the list was her cheesecake, which she cooked for various occasions, always on her nephew’s birthday and at Christmas. Her great nephews and niece were a highlight in her life. They kept her busy and brought laughter and smiles into her life after the loss of her daughter, Allie. She made sure to keep each of their favorite ice creams on hand and was always willing to babysit when called on. Selflessly helping her sister filled her final days and her love and presence were a testament of the special bond they shared.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sister, Sandra Salter Fulcher of Davis; nephew, James Fulcher and wife Lindsey of Davis; niece, Carla Fulcher of Wilmington; great niece, Poppy Fulcher; great nephews, Wesley and Will Fulcher; dear co-workers and life-long friends, Bev Styron, Rose Tankard, Vera Wood; and many others who loved her.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her daughter, Allie Davis; maternal grandparents, Carlie and Allie Willis; paternal grandparents, Herbert and Vernecia Salter; her cat, Gizmo; and two spoiled dogs, Roxanna “Roxy” and Tahoe.
