Carlton was born on March 6, 1964, in Sea Level, North Carolina, to Carlton Lewis Sr. and Edna Lewis. He was a devoted man of faith who attended Broad Creek Church of God. He was known as a selfless, hardworking, and kindhearted man who always put the needs of others before his own. He always joked that “he was not your average man”. Carlton dedicated much of his career to serving his community. He worked for 15 years as a supervisor at Parker Boat Company before spending more than 20 years at Cherry Point.
An athlete from an early age, Carlton, played sports at East Carteret High School before continuing his education and football career at Guilford College. His love for sports continued throughout his life as he coached football and baseball. Never missing an opportunity to watch his daughter’s games. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping, being outdoors was his happy place. His family was his greatest blessing, and his grandson was truly the apple of his eye. He loved his friends like brothers and their bond was a testament to his loyal heart. May his memory be a treasure to all who knew and loved him.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 18 years, Elizabeth “Beth” Lewis of the home; daughters, Shaina Young (Blake) and Felicia Taylor, all of Beaufort, NC; sister, Crystal Bailey of Beaufort, NC; father-in-law, Donald McNeil of Newport, NC; mother-in-law, Pamela McNeil of Newport, NC; sister-in-law, Christy McNeil (Billy Rouse) of Newport, NC; brother-in-law, Ryan McNeil (Anna) of Newport, NC; grandson, Dawson Young of Beaufort, NC; niece, Lauren Bailey, of New Bern, NC; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
