Captain Jodie Gay

Captain Jodie Gay, 65, of Hampstead, North Carolina, passed away on October 13, 2024.

A celebration of Captain Jodie's life will be held from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. (floating), on Friday, November 1st, at Blue Water Candy Headquarters, 1007 Mabel Rawlinson Drive, Holly Ridge, NC 28445. Please feel free to wear casual attire or BWC apparel.

Jodie was born on June 15, 1959, in Smithfield, NC, to the late Earl Gay and mother, Shirley Gay. A true boat captain at heart, Jodie lived for the water. As the founder of Bluewater Candy Fishing Lures, family-owned and operated for over 23 years, he became a revered name in the fishing community, earning the nickname “Fish Killer” for his unmatched success. Capt. Jodie was a dedicated commercial fisherman, winning numerous King Mackerel tournaments and remaining a top producer in the industry.

Jodie was Terry’s loving husband for over 43 years. They built a loving family that he was deeply proud of. When he wasn’t on the water, Jodie could be found at the baseball fields cheering on his boys or a movie and Chili’s date with Taylor. His love for the sea was only rivaled by his love for those closest to him. May his memory be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Terry Gay or as he liked to call her his “Hot Redhead” of the home; mother, Shirley Gay of Little River, SC; daughter, Jessica Weaver and son-in-law Russell of Hampstead, NC; sisters, Debbie Perry of Little River, SC, and Renee’ Murphy (Ronald) of Smithfield, NC; brother, David Gay (Ann) of Selma, NC; grandchildren, Connor, Taylor, and Finn; several nieces and nephews; and his favorite shop dog, Bruce.

In addition to his father, Jodie was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Davis.
