Brenda Joyce Holton, 81, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A rite of burial to honor Brenda’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 7th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, officiated by Rev. Tammy Lee. The family will greet friends with a reception following the burial.
Brenda was born on June 9, 1943, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to the late Nathaniel and Sadie Tingen. She grew up in LaGrange where she attended LaGrange High School and developed a lifelong love of reading and sewing. She was a member of LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church, and she sang in the church choir. Brenda was an exceptional seamstress, she created many cherished garments and gifts for her loved ones over the years.
She dedicated more than 15 years of her career as an Operating Room Technician at Johnston Memorial Hospital, where she made many friends. After her retirement, she returned to Carteret County in 2012 to be closer to family. Brenda was a loving mother, cherishing time spent with her family. Her kindness and quiet strength will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her son, David Holton of Pollocksville; daughter, Lynne H. Eastman (George) of Morehead City; sister, Martha Lane of Smithfield; brother, Kenneth Tingen (Hope) of LaGrange; grandchildren, Asa Eastman, Holton Eastman, Amanda Holton; great grandchild, AceLynne Eastman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Freddy Smith; sisters, Mavis Tingen Gurley, Dot Hathaway, Iris Ginn, and Anna Ruth Tingen; and brothers, Arnold “Red” Tingen, James Tingen, and George Tingen.
