Bonnie Horsman Smith, 77, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

Bonnie will be laid to rest privately at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Bonnie was born on April 16, 1948, in Laurel, Maryland, to the late Charles and Nancy Horsman. She had a gentle, creative spirit that naturally found its way into everything she did. Her hands were rarely still—whether she was sketching a beautiful drawing, carefully crafting intricate pieces of jewelry, or knitting something made with love, each creation reflected a piece of who she was.

Tending to her garden brought her a deep sense of peace, and living near the water was a blessing she always cherished.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her son, Thomas Kroll of Newport, NC; step-son, David Smith Jr. of Beaufort, SC; sister, Stephanie Smith of Morehead City, NC; brothers, Wayne Horsman of Columbia, MD and Michael Horsman of Charlestown, WV; step-sister, Dee of Philadelphia, PA; step-brother, Barry Smith of Morehead City, NC; nephews, Chris Horesman of Virginia and Andrew Horsman of Pennsylvania; and step-niece, Lauren of Morehead City, NC.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David G. Smith and brothers, Drake Horsman od Allen Horsman.
