Obituary

Betty Arthur Reece, 86, of Cape Carteret, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Croatan Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.

A funeral service to honor Betty’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 20 at Bethlehem Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Tim Nichols. Betty will be laid to rest privately. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. Betty was born on March 17, 1940, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to Gatlen and Martha Arthur. A faithful member of Bethlehem Methodist Church, Betty lived her life with kindness, humility, and a servant’s heart. She dedicated herself to helping others as an EMT with the Cape Carteret Rescue Squad, answering the call to serve her community with compassion and professionalism.

Betty was an accomplished seamstress always creating treasured keepsakes for her family and friends. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and willingness to help anyone in need.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Donna Dowdy (Tony) of Bogue, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Christie White of Bogue, N.C.; grandchildren, Tony Lee Dowdy Jr., Scarlett Dowdy, Michael White, Ella Beckett, Madison Jones; great grandchildren, Lola White, Madison Jones; nephews, Ben Reece, Donald Reece, Ronald Reece, Roger Dunn, John Dunn, and niece, Martha Walston.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Gatlen and Martha Arthur; husband, Leo Reece; and son, Robert Reece.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethlehem Methodist Church Choir, 728 Bogue Loop Road, Bogue, N.C. 28570.
