Betty Jo Cogar Eubanks, 77, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
A memorial service to honor Betty’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 18th at First Baptist Church in Morehead City, officiated by Dr. Nate Leonard and Rev. Darrell Williams. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Betty was born on May 20, 1948, in Ansted, West Virigina, to the late Taylor and Anna Grace Cogar. She had a fulfilling career in civil service at FRC East, Cherry Point, where she diligently served as a Program Analyst from 1988 until her retirement in 2008.
A dedicated member of First Baptist Church for 33 years, Betty found joy in her faith and actively participated in church activities. She cherished her role in the choir and shared her passion for the Lord with others through her role as Sunday school teacher. Betty was a pillar of strength, love, kindness, and acceptance. She offered wise counsel, and a compassionate listening ear. She was a present and supportive mother, friend, and sister.
Betty’s amazing creativity was seen through the beautiful quilts she made over the years. She had a passion for quilting which she displayed throughout her house and organizations throughout town. Betty actively participated in various Quilt Guild Clubs within the area where she shared her skills with others and was inspired by fellow quilters.
Betty was married to her beloved husband Donnie for 52 years until his passing in 2020. Together, they raised a loving family, and she took great pride in her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Betty had a gift for creating an environment of unconditional support, empowering her children to pursue their dreams while always being there to offer wisdom and encouragement. There was no doubt that her family was the light of her life. Betty touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Johanna Millis (Danny) and Janelle Godwin (Trey), all of Newport, NC; sons, Jeremy Eubanks (Susan) of Washington, NC and Jonathan Eubanks (Terry) of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Delores Gurganus (Billy) of Greenville, NC; brother, Gerry Cogar of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Cyntera Eubanks, Greyson Millis, Shelby Grace Millis, Claire Godwin, Julia Godwin, Landon Millis, Alice Godwin, Bo Godwin, and Carter Eubanks; great-grandson, Benson Eubanks; and her Golden Doodle, Maybelle.
In addition to her parents, mother, Anna Grace Cogar and father, Taylor Cogar; Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donnie Eubanks.
