Betty Jo Wood Carter

April 5, 1940 — March 25, 2024

Peletier

Betty Jo Wood Carter, 83, of Peletier, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at her home.

A gathering of family and friends will be announced at a later date.

Betty was born on April 5, 1940, to the late Joe and Mary Wood. Born in Surry County, she grew up in the majestic mountains of North Carolina.

Betty was blessed with a true love story with her sweetheart Bobby. Their marriage spanned a remarkable 64 years and was a testament to the enduring power of love and commitment.

In 1979, they moved to the coast, settling in Newport. She was well known by her customers at Belk Department Store where she was a friendly face to so many. In her free time, Betty was happy to get lost in a good book or challenge herself with an intriguing puzzle.

More than anything, Betty's faith was the cornerstone of her existence and she faithfully attended Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church for several years. Her devotion to the Lord shone brightly through her compassion and kindness towards others.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Bobby Carter; daughter, Glenda Carter of Peletier; sisters, Opal Horton of Ft. Mill, SC and Lona Marion of Dodson, NC; grandchildren, Clay Boyette of Hubert, NC, Crystal Addair (Harley) of Kernersville, NC, Gerry Cunningham (Bradley) of Stella, NC, and Carrie Hunt (Jason) of Peletier; and great-grandchildren, Leo Lucht, Carleigh Addair, Hunter Cunningham, Avery Cunningham, Brantley Cunningham, Payton Hunt and Rylee Hunt.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Boyette; son, Danny Carter; sisters, Joyce Roberts and Lorene Taylor; and brother, Franklin Bud Wood.
