Bertie Smith Murphy, 93, of Beaufort, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Crystal Bluffs in Morehead City.
A funeral will be held 2:00 pm Friday at First Free Will Baptist Church in Beaufort with Rev. Richard Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Oceanview Cemetery.
Bertie was a loving mother, grandma, and great grandma. She was a long-time member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Beaufort. She will be missed by her family and friends.
She survived by a daughter Gloria M. Jones and husband Earl of Beaufort; a son Buddy Murphy and wife Robin of Beaufort; grandson Brian Jones and wife Sarah of Beaufort; granddaughter Heather Murphy of Beaufort; great grandson Spencer Jones of Beaufort; great granddaughter Taylor Murphy of Beaufort; sisters Ada Taylor and husband Robert of Beaufort, and Letha Davis of Beaufort; brothers Charlie Clifton Lewis and wife Lillie Mae of Beaufort, and Otis Lewis and wife Jeanette of Beaufort; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmo Murphy, daughter Brenda M. McPhee, infant granddaughter Anne McPhee, and sister Pearl Hunnings.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday at the Church.
