Bernardus “Ben” Velthoven, 87, of Morehead City, North Carolina passed away on Friday, June 20,2025 at the Service League of Greenville Hospice House.
A funeral service to honor Ben’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 27th at Munden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Born on April 16, 1938, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Ben was the beloved son of Gerrit and Frederika Velthoven. In 1950, he and his family immigrated to America, settling in New Jersey. It was there he met and married the love of his life, Nancy Whitaker.
He obtained a Masters Degree and settled in to teaching high school English at Sparta High School. Following his move to Cedar Point, NC, he continued teaching at Jacksonville High School until his retirement.
Ben’s favorite pastime was travelling with his family, whether it be a camping trip across America or a flight back home to his native Holland. His passion was his family, and he always made sure they were well taken care of and safe.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Nancy Velthoven; daughter, Linda Staab (Bobby) of Morehead City; son, Mark Velthoven (Beth) of Hampstead; grandchildren, Joshua Staab (Laura) of Raleigh and Beaufort, Jacqueline Staab of Morehead City, Kiersten Staab of Morehead City, Caroline Velthoven Ward (Ryan) of Stella, Hannah Velthoven of Newport, and Darden Velthoven of Hampstead; great grandchildren, Lottie Staab and Luke Staab; sister-in-law, Marilyn Stafford (Errol) of Stuart, Florida; and niece and nephew, Rebecca Fourman and Ayden Painter, both of Stuart, Florida.
In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by his son, David Christopher Velthoven.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
