Benjamin "Buzzy" Avery Smith, Sr.

Benjamin “Buzzy” Avery Smith, Sr., 52, of Havelock, NC, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018, at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home in Havelock, officiated by Rev. Shalynn Miller. Interment will follow at 5 p.m. at the Pocket Presbyterian Cemetery in Sanford, NC.

Buzzy was a strong-willed, headstrong man who loved helping others and would go out of his way to help anyone. He was a mechanic and carpenter for most of his life and in recent years became an owner and operator of Buzzards Towing. He was a loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by his daughters, Amanda Pilkington and husband, Tony, of Broadway and Samantha Smith and companion, Corey Anderson, of Havelock; sons, Jeremy Lee and companion, Charley Wright, of Sanford, Benjamin “BJ” Smith, Jr. of Havelock and Mitchell Smith of Havelock; sister, Tammy Jones and companion, Mitch Owens, of Cameron; brother, Robert Smith and wife, Pam, of Hubert; grandchildren, Alaina and Denise; and former wife and good friend, Lisa Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Smith and mother, Cynthia Barkley.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home in Havelock.
