Barrie Byland Himes, 66, of Swansboro, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Carolina East Medical Center.

Barrie was born on February 17, 1960, in Onslow County, North Carolina, to the late Benjamin A. Byland and Mary J. Davis Byland. She carried with her a lifelong love of learning and a natural gift for nurturing others, which led her to earn her bachelor's degree and pursue a meaningful career in education.

For many years, Barrie devoted herself to her students as a 3rd grade teacher at White Oak Elementary School in Cape Carteret. She had a special way of making every child feel seen, valued, and capable, leaving a lasting impression on countless young lives.

Barrie expressed her creativity in meaningful ways - through the beautifully knitted gifts she made with love, and through her detailed drawings and colorful paintings.

Above all, Barrie's greatest love was her family. She was a devoted wife, a caring and supportive mother, and an adoring grandmother. Her grandchildren were truly her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of 32 years, Randy Himes; daughter, Amber leigh Howard (Jason) of Delco, NC; sons, Chad Himes and wife Melissa of Wilmington, NC, and Josef Allen Himes and wife Jordan of Emerald Isle, NC; and grandchildren, Makayla Himes, Tyler Driskill, Alleigh Himes, Sailor Himes, Harbor Himes, and Skipper Himes.

In addition to her parents, Barrie was preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Allen Byland.
