Barbara Jean Lloyd Henson

Barbara Jean Lloyd Henson, 87, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, September 5, 2025.

Barbara was born in Bell Arthur in Pitt County, North Carolina on January 27, 1938, to the late Milton Jones Lloyd and Fannie Sutton Lloyd. She was raised in Bell Arthur with her 8 siblings which included 7 sisters, Evelyn, Dorothy, Lady Gay, Beulah Ann, Ellen, Lillian and Frances and 1 brother, Milton "Bud" Lloyd.

In 1954, Barbara married Lee Roy Mayo Jr., forming a partnership that lasted for 28 years. She later married Joseph Henson in 1987, and they shared six years together.

Barbara was very much loved by her children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her children, Michael Mayo, Mitchell Mayo (Charlotte), Pamela Mayo, and Jeffrey Mayo; grandchildren, Shannon Sencion (Luis), Brandon Dunn, and Juliya Dunn; sister, Frances Hedgepeth (Rex); and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, 6 sisters and 1 brother, Barbara was predeceased in death by her granddaughter, Amity Fisher.

Barbara will be laid to rest at Gethsemane Memorial Park near her beloved home. Per her wishes there will not be a service.
