Barbara Joyce Rider Engleby

Barbara Joyce Rider Engleby, 86, of Macon, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

Barbara was born on December 22, 1939, in Sayre, Pennsylvania, to the late Arthur and Marjorie Rider. Throughout her life, she had a gift for making every place feel like home. She loved gardening, canning, and knitting, and had a deep appreciation for antiques, delighting in collecting special treasures.

Barbara loved the Lord and was actively involved in the churches she attended over the years. Her caring nature was evident in the many ways she served others and in the countless hours she volunteered to help those in need. Her volunteer work included serving as hospice coordinator for Carteret County. Barbara was active in the Roanoke Valley Junior Women's Club where she was fundamental in the development of Youth Haven, an organization dedicated to helping children in need.

Above all, Barbara was a loving mother who cherished her family dearly.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Shaun Marie Engleby; sons, Thomas Arthur Engleby and Joseph Bradley Engleby; sisters, Sue Yearsley and Helene Barden; grandchildren, Benjamin Colt Markgraf, Christopher Brock Engleby, Amber Nicole Engleby, Logan Thomas Engleby, Joseph Coleman Engeby, and Sophia Rider Engleby; and great-grandchildren, Isaiah Engleby and Oliva Engleby.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dudley Sizer Engleby.
